We are very pleased and delighted to introduce our church staff.  Each brings their strengths and specialities to St John and makes this church a welcoming, wonderful place to worship.

Matt Mimlitz, Pastor

St John UCC Paster Matt Mimlitz

The son of a UCC Minister (Rev. John) and a long-time Christmas Program Director and church choir member (Barbara); Pastor Matt has always claimed to have “grown up in the church all over Indiana.”

Pastor Matt graduated from Elmhurst College in 1984 and The Chicago Theological Seminary in 1998. In between he coached Cross Country and Track at Elmhurst College and worked in the Office of Admission for both Elmhurst and Lake Forest College. His love of sports moved him from being an athlete (he won nine varsity letters at Elmhurst College) to coaching.

Pastor Matt loves to preach and teach and fellowship with the members of St. John. Still his roots in Youth Ministry remain foundational to his work with the youth at St. John, particularly the Annual Summer Work/Education Trip. Since 1995, he has taken youth and adults to Alaska, Arkansas (3 times), Illinois (2 times), Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi (3 times), Missouri (3 times), Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee (2 times), West Virginia, Wisconsin (2 times), Washington DC.

 Sharon DiPrima, Church Secretary

Sharon DiPrima, Church SecretarySharon began as the church secretary in August 2000 when she was looking for part-time work after being diagnosed with breast cancer and unable to continue working full-time. “St. John United Church of Christ helped me recover emotionally by feeling useful again,” says Sharon. When she first started, the office was not computerized so it was a challenge to bring the office up-to-date electronically. One of the important things to St. John is its German heritage and it is a goal of Sharon’s to put the historical scrapbooks in PDF files so anyone can access the information on the website.

Sharon has participated and raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life walk since 2000. In 2002, she participated in a 60-mile walk from Kenosha Wisconsin to Chicago Illinois.

Spending time with family and friends is of the utmost importance in her life.
