 Book Club

book club membersFor over 10 years, the St. John Book Club has been meeting to have lively discussions. We currently have 11 members and each member selects the book they wish to read and discuss. That member hosts the discussion at their home or a local cafe. Once a year we select a book that men will especially enjoy and at that meeting the men are invited to join in the discussion. We have read every type of book, from historical fiction and biographies to mysteries and faith-based memoirs. We have a diverse group of women who select books ranging in topics such as women and soldiers in Afghanistan, children with autism, Mary Magdalene and surviving World War II. As long as it's a good discussion book, we will read it!

 Lunch Bunch

For many years now, the seniors of St. John get together on the third Wednesday of the month for a soup lunch. We usually have 3 different soups to choose from and enjoy catching up on each others busy lives over a bowl of soup and some delicious desserts. In October, we have a German OctoberFest to celebrate the German heritage of St. John and we enjoy grilled brats with all the fixings including sauerkraut and German potato salad. In December, we go out for a Christmas Luncheon. We take a break during July and August but before we do, we have an indoor picnic of grilled hot dogs and burgers with all the yummy side dishes. Pastor Matt Mimlitz prepares these meals for us once a month. All are welcome.

Garden Club

We have a small but mighty and very energetic group of ladies who enjoy gardening and landscaping around our facility. They loyally attend to the weeds and creatively focus on the sections of landscaping that need assistance. They meet every Tuesday morning weather permitting from April to October.

Bowling League

This group of men and women bowl every other Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM at Parkside Lanes on Montgomery Road in Aurora.  They have grown from four teams to six teams this year and they enjoy a spirited game of bowling and friendly competition amongst themselves.  After the season ends, they have a banquet; fun times!  If you are interested in joining, contact the church 630-961-9942 and they will put you in touch with the league.
